Welcome to 1532 Bancroft Way

Dear Prospective Buyers,

Our home at 1532 Bancroft Way has been a source of peace and inspiration over the last seventeen years. During the time we lived there, we made many changes that enhanced our interests in cooking, gardening and overall functionality. We built a new laundry area and expanded our kitchen to include a built-in shelving unit downstairs. We enjoy cooking and own many kitchen appliances. We used the downstairs bonus room as a pantry. The laundry area was expanded to provide organization for sporting goods and household items. We used the garage for tools, work bench and recreational equipment. We wanted to care for our home long-term by doing a seismic retrofit, new roof, drainage, new water heater and garden and lighting enhancements.

My favorite place is the garden. I spent many hours planting bulbs and perennials and enjoying the sounds of the birds. The crabapple tree in bloom is amazing, with hundreds of flowers. The bees love it. The magnolia signals the start of spring and the blooms are bright pink and prolific. My husband and I are both gardeners and we love to watch things grow! We shared time with family and friends in the garden. It is a wonderful place for dining, enjoying morning coffee and sitting quietly.

Family has always been important to us. We shared the holidays with relatives and friends and enjoyed being part of the neighborhood. Once, we had eighteen people over for a holiday dinner, all prepped in our kitchen. There are several families with young children on our block and many families live around the corner on Spaulding Way and California. I enjoy walking during the day and connected with many of my neighbors. We watch out for one another.

Schools are close by. Two of them are on Bancroft Way. Berkeley High School is at the corner of Bancroft Way and Martin Luther King Jr. Way. UC Berkeley is within walking distance as are other adult schools in downtown Berkeley. Downtown Berkeley has something for everyone and we enjoyed walking up to restaurants, movie houses and the Pacific Film Archive.

I am a psychotherapist in private practice and my office is in Orinda. Our house is centrally located and it was an easy and simple commute. We could travel south to Oakland and north to El Cerrito in about 15 minutes. BART is less than five minutes away. The Bay is also a short distance by car. We enjoyed going down to Aquatic Park to watch the sunset and to take stunning bird photos.

When preparing our home for sale, we wanted to send it off with love and caring. The kitchen has new cabinets, countertops, lighting and refrigerator. The fresh paint inside and out and refinished hardwood floors enhances the home’s beauty and vitality. We even refurbished our front door. Don’t forget to open the little window door!

We are selling our home because we are moving out-of-state to be closer to family. We will miss our sweet home that so many have cared for before us. We welcome the new owners to take up the mantle and write their own unique story.
